HVAC Summer Pro-Tips
The Summer heat is here in the Treasure Valley and we wanted to let our customers know some pro-tips on staying cool.
Change the filter monthly
The most important maintenance task that will ensure the efficiency of you air conditioner is to routinely replace or clean its filters.
Clogged, dirty filters block airflow and can greatly reduce the efficiency of the system. On top of that, the dust and dirt can clog your ducts, requiring additional cleaning to be required.
Clean the area around the outdoor unit
Plants, tarps and other objects can block the air flow to the outdoor unit and cause obstructions. It is best to clear the area and trim any vegetation that could hinder air flow.
Is the outdoor unit shaded? Outdoor air conditioner units that are shaded can use up to 10% less electricity! Plan for your ac unit in Boise to be put out of the sun and save more.
Clean your air conditioner vents
Excessive dirt and dust around your vents can cause your cooling and heating system to work hard and consume more energy.
Quick and easy ways to clean are to run your vacuum cleaner over all the vents and use the crevice tool to reach the higher or out of reach spots. Clean your vent covers in the sink with water and a little dish soap.
Clean the condensor coils
Condensor coils take concentrated heat from your home and dump it outdoors. A dirty coil does not transfer the heat as efficiently meaning longer periods of time the unit must run.
